The College's VLE serves three main purposes:
1. It gives students a web presence. Students are able to upload work to their own Resources folder, develop their own homepage and move work between College and home and vice versa. Students are also provided with online organisational tools such as a Calendar and a weekly 'To Do' list.
2. It gives staff the opportunity to publish helpful resources, homework and revision activities to support the student's learning. (These can be found from the 'Subjects' menu in the header)
3. It allows College members (staff and students) to communicate via e-mail and Messenger, and also to share ideas and resources using Web 2 applications.
The College VLE is also the place parents and guardians should look for updated news, events and College documentation.
Logging in protocols are as follows:
Pupil usernames and passwords now follow the following pattern; dart_yearofentryfirst3lettersofsurnamefirst3letersoffirstname
E.g. Fred Bloggs in Year 8 would be dart_09blofre
All passwords are set to password until edited by students
Currently accounts have been set up for all students.
Navigation
There are two ways of navigating the VLE. Here are drop down menus from the Header Menu to all aspects of the VLE. There is also a button bar in the left column of each page which includes all departments and a link to a full site map.
Department Resources for Learning
Many of the resources uploaded to the VLE for students require Microsoft Office. Students who do not have Microsoft Office at home can download Open Office at home. Open Office is free and gives you a Word Processor, a tool like Powerpoint, a spreadsheet, and a database. They are all interchangeable with Mircosoft software. Make sure you have the permission of your parents before you do this because it takes up quite a bit of space!
