Information Communication Technology (ICT)
The ICT department is taught across all key stages. It focuses on project based learning so that students become independent, computer literate learners. Students are given the opportunity to develop a wide range of skills that are necessary for the world of work.
Key Stage 3
In Key Stage 3 pupils are given the opportunity to develop solutions to problems using a range of software. They are given the opportunity to work independently and as part of a group. Students learn how to assess peers work as well as their own work-using APP. All projects are based on real life scenarios and give students the opportunity to become confident users of ICT and the confidence to develop complex solutions to a problem.
Key Stage 4
In the Key Stage 4 curriculum pupils are completing the OCR Nationals suite of qualifications. All students' work through 9 project based units, which enables students to gain up to 4 GCSE's.
The units studied are:
Mandatory Unit
- Unit 1 – ICT Skills for business
Optional Units:
- Unit 2 – Web page creation
- Unit 3 – Digital Imaging,
- Unit 4 – Design and produce Multimedia Products
- Unit 5 – Desktop Publishing
- Unit 6 – Spreadsheets
- Unit 7 - Databases
- Unit 8 – Technological Innovations and technology.
- Unit 21- Creating Computer Graphics.
- Unit 22 – Creating Sound Using ICT
All projects are 100% coursework and give students the opportunity to work through complex scenarios and use ICT to develop solutions to a problem.
Key Stage 5
In the sixth form, pupils are currently studying for a Level 3 OCR Nationals course. This course gives pupils the opportunity to prepare for employment in the Information and Communication Sector particularly in job roles where they will be expected to use ICT skills and liaise with users.
This qualification is also suitable for those wishing to gain a Level 3 qualification to support further study in Higher Education and provides a progression route to the OCR Level 3 National Diploma in ICT.
All students work through 6 project based units, which enables students to gain an A-Level in ICT.

- Unit 1 – Digital Business Communication
- Unit 2 – Collaborative Working
- Unit 3 – Problem Solving
- Unit 4 – Creating a Digital Showcase
Optional Units:
- Unit 10 – Digital Imaging and Photography
- Unit 11 – Digital Imaging.
All projects are 100% coursework and are studied over a two year programme.
