Letters and Sounds/ Phonics
At Wescott Infant School, 20 minute 'Letters and Sounds' phonics sessions take place
every morning from 9.10-9.30am.
We use a systematic phonics programme called Letters and Sounds.
Letters and Sounds is divided into six phases with each phase building on the skills and knowledge of previous learning. There are no big leaps in learning. Children have time to practise and rapidly expand their ability to read and spell words. They are also taught to read and spell ‘tricky words’ – words with spellings which are unusual or which children have not yet been taught.
More information can be found in out Letters and Sounds information booklet for parents on the left hand side of this page.
We currently have 12 phonics groups in school.
