We had a great Summer Fair on Saturday, despite the rain. Thank you to the PTA of both the Infant and Junior Schools for all their hard work and for raising so much money for the schools!

Nursery closes for the Summer on Thursday 19th July and school closes on Friday 20th July.

School reopens on Tuesday 4th September and Nursery reopens on Monday 10th September.

I would like to wish all our lovely Year 2 children the best of luck in their new Junior schools - we will miss you but we will follow your progress with great interest!

Thank you to our parents for their great support for this school. The children have done you proud in this year's results and we have enjoyed working with you all.

Wishing everyone a happy and relaxing holiday.

From Mrs Turner and all the school staff and governors

Headteacher's Update - Monday 2nd July 2012

We have just finished celebrating a Cluster schools Olympics, hosted by the Coombes Primary School. This was started with a real torch relay between the schools! The children had a very interesting time trying out lots of different sports, learning new dances, looking at aspects of Ancient Greek culture and tasting different foods. They had a memorable time, and it will help them understand the meaning of the London Olympics starting in a few weeks.

Headteacher's Update - Friday 1st June 2012

This week the whole school celebrated Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee in a special tea party held at Shinfield St Mary's CE Junior School.

Our special guest the Mayor of Wokingham was in attendance and gave a short speech to us all. We were also very pleased to welcome our other special guests Carole Hughes and Marjory Bisset from the Parish Council, who presented the schools with cheques and the children with commemorative bookmarks. Three cheers were given for the Queen, led by Christopher Young. The children gave us a colourful parade of hats they had designed and everyone had a piece of Jubilee Cake. We all had a wonderful time.

Congratulations and thank you to our Queen who is the cause of such celebrations. God bless you and long may you reign.

Headteacher's Update - Monday 21st May 2012

This week Year 2 have been working hard on their End of Key Stage assessments. They really enjoyed their visit to Reading Synagogue. They learnt so much from seeing this lovely place of worship at first hand, trying some Jewish food and listening to the people there telling them about Jewish customs. The F2 team are to be congratulated on their recent external moderation which showed that the children are making great progress - well done! Year 1 have produced some lovely writing this half term - keep up the good work, children! Next week the whole school will be celebrating at a Queen's Diamond Jubilee party with Shinfield St Mary's CE Junior School. The children will receive a special gift from Shinfield Parish Council and the PTA to mark this very special occasion. The Shinfield History Room will be reopened for visits. Please contact the school to arrange an appointment to view the room.

Headteacher's Update - Friday 27th April 2012

Thank you to all the parents and staff who gave up their time to help get the Nursery ready for the start of the new term. We are most grateful to you!

F2 are looking forward to their trip to Bucklebury Farm Park next week. Let's hope for some fine weather.

Year 1 have been working hard and have remembered the many new things they were taught last term - well done!

Year 2 had a visit from 'Feathers and Fur' who brought lots of animals including Willow the Barn Owl who flew over the children's heads in the Hall! Year 2 were praised by the animal handler Sadie for their lovely behaviour. Well done to Year 2 for being a credit to their parents and their school.

Headteacher's Update – 9th March 2012

We have had a lovely Book Week. Thank you parents, for all your support. The children have thoroughly enjoyed it.

The highlights were the visits to Spencers Wood Library, the ‘Gingerbread Man’ show, stories with parents every morning and dressing up as book characters on the last day. The school really did look like a colourful story book had come to life – the costumes created by staff and children were amazing.

The children really enjoyed the staff play on ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ – one child said it was better than a real pantomime!

Each class has also created a new and unusual reading area, which has further encouraged reading for enjoyment.

We are looking forward to our Pyjama Party next week.

Headteacher's Update – 23rd February 2012

On Tuesday we had our ever popular Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day Race which everyone enjoyed very much. Many thanks to the WI for their help with this and for supplying prizes for the winners! In school we cooked our own pancakes and tried out different toppings.

The school has been decorated in the half term holiday and the front office and corridors look very bright and smart.

Thanks to our PTA the Friends of Shinfield, we also have lovely new playground markings! The children have really enjoyed learning how to use these and making up new games to play on them.

We are collecting Sainsbury vouchers so if anybody would like to donate these to us, we would be most grateful for them. We will put them towards new PE equipment.

We had a really good Healthy Schools week last week. The Junior School children also came and shared their Eco School ideas with us in an assembly. The money raised from our Carrier Bag Sale will go towards a recycling project in the school. The Governors spent 'Happiness Day' with us and learnt a lot from the children about what they enjoy doing in school. They really like doing their best work!
The teachers  shared the things that made them happy, including a song and dance , an amusing story and a visit from Mrs Belas' dog Gilbert.
