General Information
School Hours and Attendance
All children in Foundation Stage, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 will be able to enter classrooms from 8.40am onwards. The remainder of classes will enter the back playground from this time. No responsibility can be taken by the school for children arriving before 8.40am. The school bell goes at 8.50am.
The doors to the hall and Year one will close at 8.50am. After this time a parent/carer (except for Year 6) MUST sign their child in at the School Office. A late mark will be recorded for any child who (without prior notification) arrives after this time.
The school day finishes at 3.25pm (3.15pm for Foundation Stage). The children will be brought out of their respective classes where they will be released to their parents/carers. Please wait for your child to be sent to you.
Collection of your children
The school operates a green card system whereby anyone who may need to collect your child when you are not available, can do so without prior notification providing they are listed on the green card. In the event that someone else needs to collect your child who is not listed then the school requires either a written note detailing the person who will collect or a telephone call before afternoon registration (1.15pm).
It is also important that your child is collected promptly at the end of the school day. Parents who consistently collect their children late will be required to sign a book when they collect.
Absence
If your child is unwell you must telephone the school first thing, leaving a message on the telephone answering system to report your child as absent. Should your child be off for longer than 1 day a note must be provided either written or by email on your child’s return.
If your child is sick (vomits) or has diarrhoea, your child must be kept away from school for 48 hours from the last episode of sickness/diarrhoea.
Holidays are fine but NOT in Term Time
Guidance issued by the Department of Education states that no parent/carer can demand leave of absence for the purposes of a holiday as a right.
Term time absences for holidays will NOT be authorised during the months of September, April or May.
Absence during any other month is at the discretion of the Head Teacher and will only be considered if you have discussed the request first and your child’s attendance is good. Once permission has been granted verbally please obtain a form from the school office.
Keeping your child away from school is a criminal offence and taking your child on holiday in term time without the authorisation of the Head Teacher can result in a FIXED PENALTY NOTICE
Lunch
Children may bring a packed lunch or have a school lunch, which can be paid for daily, weekly or termly. The current cost of a school lunch is £1.90. Cheques made payable to “Chartwells”. Water is provided. Lunch money should be in a named purse or envelope and taken into class by your child, if paying by cheque these can be sent in a sealed envelope and posted in the school letter box located in the school office.
Please ensure ALL lunchboxes are clearly named on the outside with your child’s name and class.
A school menu will be provided when your child has started school.
PE
For PE lessons the children need a PE kit consisting of a plain white T-shirt, navy shorts and black slip-on plimsolls, all of which should have your child’s name inside. This kit should remain in school all week. A drawstring PE bag may be purchased from school office at a price of £3.50. No plastic bags please. Children often require an outdoor PE kit also. This consists of black/navy tracksuit bottoms, navy/black sweatshirt or zipped jacket.
To encourage the younger children to be more independent when getting dressed after PE, it would be helpful if they could have a tie on elastic (available from school office at £2 each) and shoes with a fastening they can manage themselves.
Uniform
Children must wear school uniform, which is clearly marked. Please see uniform sheet.
Hair should be neat and tidy with no extremes of fashion. eg patterns, shaved heads, gel. Shoulder length hair MUST all be tied back; short haircuts must not be severe.
Children must not wear jewellery to school. Girls with pierced ears are only allowed to wear stud earrings, and these need to be removed on days when they have PE. If your child has recently had their ears pierced, ears must be covered with tape at home prior to PE.
Personal Belongings
All personal belongings must be clearly labelled, as the school cannot accept responsibility for any loss incurred.
PE clothing should be in an appropriate bag, ie. Not plastic. (Please see uniform list). Please ensure that this kit is in school at all times during the term. It can be taken home at weekends for washing.
