We are learning all about Bangladesh and Germany this week.

Bangladesh

We are going to link with a school in Germany and in Bangladesh.

We have been finding out which events they are competing in during the Olympic games.

Germany are competing in the Equestrian events.

We had our own event, here we are on our horses!

We saw a fantastic play about the Olympics, look at our faces!

We had a visit from Adam, one of the torch bearers!

 We have been making
German black forest cakes.

 Watch our fantastic class assembly!

World Cup!

Mr Dean-Lee kindly let us see his replica World Cup, it was very heavy!
Some Woodpeckers had just been reading about the world cup in our guided reading session so we knew lots about it.

Gym

We have been doing some impressive mirror balances on the apparatus.

Maths Week

Fire Safety

We learned a lot about fire safety including these handy rhymes.

Matches, matches never touch.
They can hurt you very much.

and

Get out!
Stay out!
Call 999.

We have been presenting data in bar charts on the playground.

 Maths Week
Thanks to all of the grown-ups who came to play maths games with us.

We have been out to the pond and playground to look for minibeasts.
 It was terribly exciting!

Spring 2

We have been thinking about Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes!

In Science we have been heating foods to see if changes are reversible or irreversible.

We have tried mixing liquids to see what happens.

In Art we have been rolling ball and sausage shapes with clay and we used our joining skills to make fantastic mushroom models. We were careful to mould the cap like an umbrella and we smoothed the top using a paintbrush and water.
We are really proud of our clay mushrooms.

Future Olympians Focus Fortnight

Thursday:
We went to TPS again and had another fabulous session with the sports leaders including football, trampolining and more hot chocolate!

Wednesday: We have been thinking about Olympic mascots today and we found a fabulous game. Why not try it at home?

Today we...

...played paralympic games including one with blindfolds and a ball with a bell in. We had to rely on our sense of hearing to locate the ball. It was quite tricky!

...had a Bhangra dance lesson with Mrs Gilliat!

...had a Fitness session with Victoria and Kate.

What a busy day :)

Tuesday: Skipping and more smoothies!

Thursday: What a fabulous day!
Mini Olympics at TPS led by their amazing sports leaders and then Judo with Lauren's Grandad and Mum!

We even made Mrs Maidment run!

It was quite tiring so we stopped for
some hot chocolate - yummy!

2.2.12 Sports day
"We went to visit TPS then before we were about to go we had hot chocolate! Next we went back to school and then we did Judo!"

Woodpeckers have had a busy start to Focus Fortnight
here is a fabulous recount of Monday:

"The first day of Focus fortnight, I put my things away and put my hat on and I went to the square. We saw two children from our class they were brilliant!  Then we went back to school and I went to Squirrels and did paper mache of the olympic rings. Then I went back to the classroom and that's it!"

Keep checking back for more of our Focus Fortnight diary entries!

Woodpeckers have been learning all about the history of writing, we have used the internet to research Hieroglyphics and we found a fabulous game.

Ask us if we can remember the answers to these questions:

How many Hieroglyphic signs are there?
What does Hieroglyphics mean?
Which direction can you write your Hieroglyphic signs in?
Autumn 2011

We sang our fabulous songs in the Christingle Service at St Peter's Church.

We enjoyed our Christmas Lunch, it was delicious!

Woodpeckers went to Gloucester Court to sing our Christingle songs.
There were a few tears as our singing was so beautiful!

Afterwards we talked to the audience and wished them a Merry Christmas!

We wrote letters to Father Christmas and posted them!

It was great fun posting our letters with our friends.

We hope we get a reply!
INTECH

Year 2 had a fabulous day at Intech learning all about forces.

There were so many things to see and explore,
it was such fun learning there.

Fairtrade

We had great fun with Flick Dunkley from the Centre for Global Awareness, learning all about Fairtrade. She used a real cake to help us learn about the way wealth is spread over the world and we got to eat it too! She also let us play a fairtrade banana game where we were split into 4 groups, the fat cats, the workers, small farmers and fairtrade farmers. We soon realised that the game was fairer for some groups than it was for others! We are excited to learn more about Fairtrade and Woodpeckers are looking for ways that we can make a difference to the world.

Watch out for Fairtrade products when you are shopping and we can help to make our world a fairer place.
