In Year 5 this term the children have been learning about the Victorians and Forces.
Great Expectations
Within this topic the children have the opportunity to learn about events from that period of history and how some aspects of this time have had an impact on the way we live our lives today. The children have explored famous people such as Charles Darwin and Mary Seacole and presented thier learning in a variety of ways.
Through our English lessons the children have explored the book Street Child and other Victorian Literature such as the Jabberwocky.
We have studied how the local area of Gillingham grew in the Victorian times and how the development of the Dockyard changed the town. Through our Urban Trial we studied Victorian features within our own locality, and learnt how to spot some Victorian features.
May the Force be with you
This topic has helped us learn about Scientific concept such as gravity and push and pulls. We have learnt about gravity, conducting exciting experiments such as 'Is gravity realy or does the Earth just suck?' and 'The greater the mass, the greater the force'. We really enjoy our practicle science lessons and look forward to new learning next term.
Your child will continue to need your support this term. They need to read every night as well as learn their spellings and practice their times tables.
They will be asked to complete a piece of Mathematics homework or a piece of English homework on a Friday, which will be due in on the following Monday. The children will also be asked to complete at least 1 KMP card a week, children who wish to complete more are very welcome to.
You can help your child to be organised by ensuring they have the correct equipment they need for school, including their PE kit and swimming kit for Fridays. Please remember that children should be wearing shorts that are above the knee and a one-piece swimming costume.
Thank you for you support, we look forward to working with you to help the children achieve the very best that they can.
Miss. Harkett, Mr. Hasan/Mrs. Pollard and Mr. Walls.
