Welcome to The Cotton Tree
A Specialist ASD Facility

A developing practice to meet the needs of pupils with
Aspergers Syndrome and Autistic Spectrum Disorder
intergrating into mainstream school.

The specialist ASD Facility at Blacklands Primary School aims to promote the development of pupils with a diagnosis of Aspergers Syndrome and high functioning autism both as individuals and communicators, by providing a high quality special educational service.

Our purpose is to provide access to a mainstream curriculum, whilst providing the necessary supportive enviroment for our pupils to become successful learners.

The enviroment in the facility has been purpose built and designed to take account of the needs of the pupils. It includes quiet safe spaces and low arousal enviroments. The accommodation is divided into designated defined areas for teaching and learning, play and recreation as well as sensory activities.
All pupils within The Cotton Tree have access to the mainstream curriculum. Each child is a part of a mainstream class and will access as much learning as possible within the classroom alongside their peers. While in the facility any delivery of the curriculum will follow the content of the mainstream learning where appropriate.

The school and facility aims for each pupil to reach their potential and seeks to prepare pupils to lead independent and socially and emotionally fulfilling lives.
