At Sir John Leman you will have the opportunity to participate in a wide range of sporting activities but most importantly you will learn to lead a healthy and active lifestyle which will benefit you as you move through life.
The Physical Education Department offers excellent facilities. In addition to extensive fields, Sports Hall, astroturf, 3G pitch, gymnasium, a squash court and a fitness suite. Opportunities exist for students to enjoy a range of sporting activities throughout the curriculum. There are extra curricular opportunities for  netball, football, rugby, hockey, basketball, rounders, athletics, and tennis. There are also annual events in activities such as trampolining, swimming, cross country and table tennis. 
What is it about?

You will learn and develop your understanding of the theoretical aspects of Physical Education and Sport and improve your sporting performance through acquiring and developing practical skills.


What sort of work is done?

Practical lessons that will develop your skills and understanding in various sports to include: badminton, trampolining, rounders, basketball, football, hockey, netball and circuit training.


Theory lessons to cover work on the following areas


      Health and fitness

      Skeletal and muscular systems

      Circulatory and respiratory systems

      Sponsorship and media

      Drugs in sport


How is it examined?

A 1hr 30 min theory paper at the end of the course which is 40% of the final grade.

Assessed in 4 practical sports 60% of the final grade.


How much time would I spend doing GCSE PE?

The qualification is equivalent to 1 GCSE. Therefore you will be taught over 3 x 100min lesson per fortnight. Accompanying the theory lessons there will be regular homework usually through the extended learning work book.


What qualifications will I get? What could it lead to?

You will achieve a GCSE grade A* - G


From this qualification

You may continue to study A-Level PE or a BTEC national Diploma at Sir John Leman Sixth Form.
