In all years, students are given a wide range of opportunities to gain an insight into the world of work, providing them with the chance to develop qualities and skills required by employers. These skills include communication, team work, problem solving, decision making, taking responsibility and using initiative.
The opportunities which are available include enterprise days, visits to employers, speakers from the world of work, events relating to specific employment sectors and work experience placements as well as a structured PSHEE programme.
Work experience is offered to all Year 10 students. This is an opportunity to spend a period of time outside the classroom with an employer, learning about a particular job or area of work. During the placement, students will be able to find out what skills employers look for when they are recruiting staff.
Work experience is also offered to 6th form students as an enrichment activity to enhance their career opportunities, providing support in securing relevant places with guidance available during the academic year.
During Year 11, students attend information sessions to help them make decisions about how best they continue in education or training until the end of the academic year in which they turn 18. School and Youth Support Service staff are available to provide support for students throughout the year. Students can also have a guidance interview with a Careers Advisor.
