Life after Sixth Form
A large number of our students go on to study at university. The website used to make these applications is www.ucas.com. In addition, the UCAS website has a wealth of useful information including short video clips and case studies. Students can use the site to look at the entry requirements for individual courses; this will show students the grades/ UCAS points they need to achieve together with any individual subject requirements.
We work closely with students to support them in the application process. This includes visits to different universities, a visit to the HE Convention at UCS in Ipswich, a HE Evening and sessions in school. Sixth Form tutors are involved the process and provide references for students' applications.
College/ FE Institutions
There are other local providers such as Lowestoft College (www.lowestoft.ac.uk) and Norwich City College (www.ccn.ac.uk) where some of our students continue with their education Post 16. These colleges provide a wide variety of courses and students are encouraged to attend their open days and apply early.
We work closely with the schools' Careers & Aspirations Manger to support our students in the transition to employment. This involves arranging suitable work placements and also putting on activities in school to support students in preparing CVs, writing letters of application and developing their interview techniques.
Some of our students choose to take a gap year before heading to university. There is a wealth of information available on the internet to help students make the correct choice for them. Examples of some websites students may find of interest are www.gapyear.com, www.statravel.com and www.projecttrust.org.uk.
