Health & Social Care


For students interested in a career within the health, social care or early years’ sectors, with two options leading to the equivalent of one or two A levels. It is essential that students are prepared to embrace a variety of learning styles and fully participate in all aspects of the course. A mature approach to independent study is required and students are encouraged to develop their attitudes and values whilst respecting the views of others. Students use a wide variety of resources including current practitioners in all sectors of the subject as well as the internet and a range of course text books to support their studies and help them gain a valuable insight into professions within the context of the subject, along with work experience when necessary to support their vocational studies.


Both courses will be awarded grades from pass to distinction* with UCAS points ranging from 16 for a pass in the Extended Certificate to 112 for distinction* in the Diploma.

Unit 5 (Portfolio)- Infection control

Unit 6 (Exam)- Personalisation and a person centred approach to care

Unit 14 (Portfolio) - Impact of long term physiological conditions



Year 2 Course Content



Extended Certificate


Unit 3 (examination) - Health, safety and security within health and social care services

Unit 4 (examination)- Anatomy and physiology

An additional portfolio unit **Diploma


Students will also complete:

Unit 7 (examination) - Safeguarding Two additional portfolio units**

Extended Learning



Regular tasks will be set for students to complete outside of lesson time; it is essential that students are      pro-active and organised with their time ensuring portfolio units are of good quality and deadlines are met.
