ICT in Year 8

Students study ICT for 38 lessons in Year 8.  You will study the topics Webpage design, Information: Reliability, Validity and Bias, and Databases and Publication Design

Webpage Design
In this unit pupils use web technology to design and create a website for a department in the school. Pupils design and implement a sequence of linked web pages. Over the eight lessons, pupils should develop sufficient understanding of web technology to create and evaluate an efficient and effective website design. Students analyse and evaluate the websites of a range of schools as well as the final design of a member of the group . Students use Microsoft Publisher or Adobe Dreamweaver to create their website and are encouraged to use the digital camera, scanner, and internet during their development.

Information: Reliability, Validity and Bias.
This unit is about aspects of handling information. The unit focuses on using data and information sources, and searching for and selecting information on the Internet. You will learn how the content and style of an information source affect its suitability for particular purposes, by considering: its mix of fact, opinion and material designed to advertise, publicise or entertain; the viewpoints it offers; the clarity, accessibility and plausibility of the material. Devise and apply criteria to evaluate how well various information sources will support a task. Justify the use of particular information sources to support an investigation or presentation. Extend and refine search methods to be more efficient (e.g. using synonyms and AND, OR, NOT).

Databases

In this unit pupils develop an Access database on a superhero theme
