  UPDATE ON YOUNG GIFTED AND TALENTED WEBSITE
Gifted and Talented

Since September 2006, we have been compiling a register of our gifted and talented students. The criteria we use are described below.

Year 7 and above:
  •  a score of 129 or above on any of the CATs tests (out of 141);
  •  a recommendation from the Primary School teacher (reviewed at the end of Year 7);
Year 10 and above:
  •  achieved a Level 8 in a Key Stage 3 subject at the end of Year 9;
Year 12 and above:
  • achieved 58 or more points in GCSEs (A*=8; A=7, etc.);
Any year:
  • written recommendation from Subject Department
All teaching staff are aware of who is on the register, and they will take this into account when they are planning their lessons.

In addition to all the many opportunities offered to students both in and outside of lessons, we also encourage students to apply for courses run by external organisations such as industries and Universities, as well as other schools. Although places on these courses are limited, our G&T students are involved in a broad range of events including medical, science, film and engineering courses and various competitions.

Information about G&T events can be found on the plasma screens in school, as well as on the notice board outside Room 15 (on the quad), and also here on the Learning Platform. You will need to log in to see the Members' Section and details of available courses.

Students should speak to Miss Foster before the places are all filled.
