Wickhambrook Community Primary School > Governors

Dear Parents and Friends,

As your new Chairman of the Governing Body at Wickhambrook Primary School, I am keen to promote the profile of your current Governors.  Ahead of us lies a potentially rewarding, yet challenging, period as we expand the school to accommodate year 5 pupils in the current year and year 6 pupils from next September.

Our Governing Body has twelve members, four are elected by parents of children attending the school, one is elected by teachers, four are appointed by the Governing Body as Community Governors and two are appointed by the Local Authority.  Finally the Headteacher is a member by virtue of the position held.  The term of office for all categories of Governors is four years, at the end of which individuals can (and I’m pleased to say often do) stand for re-election or re-appointment.

We meet as a full Governing Body twice each term.  We also have nine committees, each having specific areas of responsibility.  The schedule of meetings for these committees varies according to their particular duties and current circumstances.

In addition each Governor has responsibility for specific subjects within the school. This enables the Governors and staff to liaise and work together as we strive to build on our successes and develop new areas of learning for the pupils.

The Governing Body works closely with and in support of the Headteacher and staff.  Key roles include providing a strategic view, ensuring accountability and acting as a “critical friend” in supporting the work of the school. Governors are all volunteers, giving up considerable personal time.  One thing we all share is a determination to see the best possible education provided for all children attending the school, enriching their lives and ensuring their successful development and wellbeing.

Your current body of Governors comprises the following members.

Mrs Georgina Ellis Head Teacher

Mrs Elaine Taylor (Parent Governor)  Chair
