Oaklands Infant School > Governors

Governors' Role

Our role as a governing body is a strategic and supportive one: helping the school to raise standards of achievement for its pupils and to act as a ‘critical friend’. The day to day organisation and running of the school is the responsibility of the Head Teacher.

The governing body’s main responsibilities include determining the aims and overall conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement. Specific duties may include appointing staff, setting and agreeing the school budget, ensuring that a broad and balanced curriculum is delivered as well as monitoring health and safety and the management of the premises.

The governing body has 14 members:

5 parent governors elected by parents

3 Local Authority governors appointed by Wokingham Borough Council

3 community governors appointed by the governing body

1 teacher governor elected by staff

1 staff governor elected by staff

The Head Teacher

Governors are elected or appointed for 4 years, although they may stand down earlier if they wish. They may seek re-appointment/election at the end of their term of office. Parent governors do not have to stand down if their child leaves the school.

If you are interested in becoming a governor, please do get in touch with the Head Teacher who would be delighted to discuss it further.
