The German students at Maiden Erlegh have a reputation for working hard and achieving exceptional standards. The examination results have always been amongst the best in the school and we attribute this to the students’ enthusiasm, the teachers’ dedication and the commitment of our German assistant and German-speaking volunteers from the University of Reading. We offer an exchange trip to Year 9 and 10 students to Lippstadt and a work experience exchange to Worms to Year 12 and 13 students. The benefits of these cultural and linguistic experiences are huge and students not only develop their language skills, but also their confidence and work ethic to become fluent. We even had a visit recently from the prestigious German television channel ZDF who were filming a report on language-learning in England. Year 10 acquitted themselves excellently and displayed a number of advanced language skills to the camera.

German lessons at Maiden Erlegh are carefully planned to be interactive and productive and are designed to promote the enjoyment of learning the language.
