Battle and Langton School Association (BALSA) is the fund raising arm of the school and looks to raise money for the benefit of all the children at the school.
In 2008/2009 BALSA raised over £8000, which was achieved by a number of fund raising activities including the annual school Summer Fete, popular Craft Fairs, and other activities including School Discos.
Funds are also raised by the sale of School Sweatshirts, PE shirts and other items such as PE bags, book bags and the sale of Tea Towels featuring the self drawn portraits of each child.
With the funds raised, the money is used exclusively for the benefit of the children and in for many years BALSA have helped to support an annual major project.
Last year BALSA help the school in purchasing air conditioning units for the classrooms.
In addition the money is used for a whole variety of smaller projects, and these have included purchasing musical instruments or desirable class equipment.
BALSA is also keen to ensure that money raised is for the benefit of all the children at the school, therefore it helps to reduce the cost to parents for school trips by paying a third of the travel costs, and subsidising such events as the children's Christmas party.
Unfortunately, this money does not generate itself and it can only be raised by the support and help from parents, however this help can be given in many ways.
As BALSA is a registered charity it is to introduce a Gift Aid Scheme. This will be a most efficient form of fund raising as BALSA will receive Tax Relief on all contributions received.
If parents felt able to contribute to BALSA by standing order a small monthly payment such as £1 or £2, this could easily generate up to £10,000 each year, as for every £10 received in total, BALSA will receive an additional Tax Back Payment of £2.82 from the Inland Revenue.
Help can also be provided by supporting the various events such as the Craft Fairs, School Discos and the annual School Summer Fete which in June 2008 raised over £4500
In the autumn term we used the money raised to build a new adventure playground for the whole school to enjoy.
You may also look to support BALSA by joining the committee.
This is most important as unfortunately each year a number of the committee members are lost as their children leave the school, therefore new members are always welcome, not least for their fresh ideas and enthusiasm.
If you would like additional information or would like to help, please just come along to any of the committee meetings.
Details of these are advertised in the school's weekly newsletter.
Many thanks for your support.
