THE DRAMA DEPARTMENT MISSION
To enable pupils to develop skills which help them to decide the form, context and manner in which they communicate and express themselves. To develop students’ social co-operation and confidence with others, through group endeavor, interaction with an audience, or other kinds of corporate sharing.
Key Stages
Key Stage 3 (KS3)
In KS3 Drama, schemes of work studied include Mime, Tension & Atmosphere, Scripts and more. The focus is on learning core techniques to take you through Key Stage 3 and beyond.
Key Stage 4 (KS4)
Drama GCSE involves lots of practical group based work. Groups have the responsibility of running themselves through rehearsal and performance of scripts, and devised work. The exam takes the form of a two hour paper, with questions on how to perform characters from a play we have studied, and on performances seen at the Theatre. The department runs several trips to see productions all over the country each year.
Key Stage 5 (KS5)
Drama A Level involves studying as many theatre practitioners and writers as we can fit in. The practical coursework will involve you finding a script you like, and preparing a performance from it, in the style of an existing director or theatre company. In addition, you will learn how to light, operate sound equipment, costume and set plays. The written exams require you to talk about how to perform in plays you have studied, and also to analyse plays you have seen.
