To enable students to critically investigate the past and, in so doing, help them to better understand the present.

 

Key Stages


Key Stage 3 (KS3)

  • Year 7 study The Roman Empire and Medieval Realms

  • Year 8 study The Making of the UK 1500-1750 and Britain 1750-1900

Key Stage 4 (KS4)

Years 9, 10 and 11 study GCSE History:

  • a preparation course on The Twentieth Century World
  • a preparation course on Black Peoples of the Americas
  • an outline study of International Relations 1943-91;
  • a depth study on Germany 1918-39;
  • a source enquiry on The USA 1945-70 and
  • a controlled assessment on Crime, policing and punishment in England 1880-1980

Key Stage 5 (KS5)

  • Year 12 AS History involves a study of British Domestic Issues 1918-51 and a source-based enquiry on Dictatorship and Democracy in Germany 1933-63;

  • Year 13 A2 History study the Russian Revolutions 1894-24 and Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992

The department also offers A-Level Government and Politics at KS5.
