THE ENGLISH DEPARTMENT MISSION


The English Department seeks to encourage students to love their language by:

  • enabling them to attain fluency in reading, writing and speaking in order to feel confident to communicate at all levels of life
  • helping them to improve the technical control of their work
  • extending their experience of literature and the media in such a way that fosters appreciation and enjoyment
  • developing their understanding of the different ways in which meanings are made and how they can use their language to improve their lives.

Key Stage 4 (KS4)

Students opt to study for TWO GCSEs:

  • GCSE English Language and Literature or
  • GCSE English and Media Studies

The English course is split into completing a coursework folder of five pieces in year 10 which are designed to demonstrate their knowledge and competence in terms of language analysis and written fluency.
