At Key Stage 4 the History Department offers OCR GCSE History A (Schools History Project) 1935. This divides into three components of study:
  
1. The Development Study - The History of Medicine. This is assessed by end of course examination as part of Paper 1 and a pre-determined theme from the Medicine course chosen by the examining board forms the basis of Paper 2. In Y11 students visit the Thackray Medical Museum in Leeds.
  
2. The Depth Study - The American West. The Depth Study is assessed by end of course examination as part of the Paper 1 examination.
  
3. A Modern World Study - The Arab-Israeli Conflict. The Modern World Study is assessed by a controlled assessment, the question for which is set by the examining board and accounts for 25% of the final GCSE mark.
 
Assessment regime:
Paper 1 = (2 hours) 45% of the final GCSE mark
Paper 2 = (1½ hours) 30% of the final GCSE mark
Controlled assessment = 25% of the final GCSE mark
 
 
 
GCSE mock examinations are taken in both Y10 and Y11.
 
 
GCSE percentage examination results over the past five years:
The National Average for A*-C passes in GCSE History in 2009 was 69%, at Brookfield the percentage was 78.1%
