The American West, 1840 - 1895. This depth study examines how the west was won and settled by white Americans by investigating the lives of the Plains Indians, the Mormons, cattlemen, cowboys and homesteaders. It is approached through the theme of conflict, both between the Plains Indians and the settlers and between different groups of settlers.
