Artist of the Month - Maya Luscombe - Year 11

Mrs Benton says "Year 11 have been working on their final project based on the Bristol Harbour Side.  I chose Maya's painting because she has created a lovely lively composition and she has used such vibrant colours".

Maya says "For my main piece of coursework we had to create a painting from a range of images from my sketchbook. We then had to scale it up onto A2 paper. Then, with acrylic paint, I used a range of colours, textures and tones to create a unique image.  I greatly enjoyed doing this painting and I am very pleased with the end results".

King's Oak Poet Laureate of the term: Sian Collins

Each term a student will have responsibility of writing a poem that represents life at the Academy and world events.

This term, Sian Collins in Year 13 who is studying English Literature, wrote a poem inspired by the poetry of Carol Ann Duffy, the nation’s poet laureate.  To read Sian's poem click here >>

Sian says: “In this poem I’m trying to incorporate the work we have done on Carol Ann Duffy by echoing some of the features of her poetry. I want to write about the knowledge we acquire at school by presenting it as an acorn planted into a head which blossoms into an oak tree. Because we are ‘King’s Oak’, there are lots of references to princes and royalty.”
