About the department

We aim to make maths at Brookfield a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all our students. We have 6 maths classrooms on the top floor, 2 of which are equipped with interactive whiteboards.

Key Stage 3

Year 7

In year 7, the students are taught in mixed ability groups. They have 3 one-hour lessons every week.
They are tested at regular intervals to monitor progress.

Years 8 and 9

In years 8 and 9 the students are setted based on their ability and performance in year 7. The year group is divided into 2 half years, and we therefore have 2 set 1’s, 2 set 2’s  and so on. The students have 3 one-hour lessons a week and work towards their Key Stage 3 Assessment.

Key Stage 4

In years 10 and 11 the students are setted across the whole year and so will be working with people of very similar ability. The students study one of two tiers of GCSE entry, Foundation or Higher.

The school offers both Maths and Further Maths at both A & AS levels.

There is also the opportunity to re-take GCSE for those students not achieving their expected grades.
