Some of our damaged trees are cut down, making space for our new Cabin....

Pathways being laid through the woods - March 09

Some of your questions answered...

Q1) Why isn't the cabin in the woods?

Due to very strict planning rules about building near trees we were not able to build the cabin within a 5 meter radius of any tree.  Therefore we have decided to position the cabin where visitors can look directly into the woods from the comfort of our cosy cabin!

Q2) Why are the windows so high?

The windows at the back of the cabin are only there to let in some natural light.  The front of the cabin has beautiful french doors providing great views of the woodland!

Q3) Why is the building built at an angle?

This is an optical illusion!!  The playground is sloped and this makes the cabin look a bit wonky!!

Q4) How much playground area will be lost?

We have tried really hard to take as little of the playground area as possible.  We will also be 'block-paving' an additional area to regain some of the lost space.  In addition to the cabin we have also made 4 activity areas within the woods which have increased the amount of outdoor play areas for the children. (These include an outside classroom, a storytelling area, picnic bences, mushroom seating, a log train and raised planters).

Q5) Will year 6 have time to use the cabin before they leave?

We hope that all work will be completed by early July and we will give you details of the official opening as soon as possible!  Year 6 will be given plenty of time to enjoy these new facilities before they leave.

Thank you for voting for us - we won the £50,000!!!

Merdian came in with their camera crew and newsreader again yesterday (25th Nov 08) to announce on telly whether we had won or lost the People's Millions.  The children were waiting in anticipation for the result from Sangeeta Bhabra who announced that we had won the massive £50,000 we need to start building our cabin.

Thank you so much if you voted for us, we really couldn't have done it without you!

Meridian TV come in and film us for the People's Millions.

A number of children were filmed for our TV appearance, which goes out on the ITV Meridian News on 24th November.  In the footage we are appealing to viewers to vote for us so we can win £50,000 for our woodland cabin project.  The children were so excited to be filmed and behaved, as always, brilliantly.  A big thank you to all of them and let's hope our pleas are successfull!  J

The enthusiastic bunch who helped with the filming were Kyle, Nia, Bethany, Sapphire, Luke, Jack, Billy, Max, Phoebe, Ellis, Maisy, Caitlin, Michael, Joe, Amy, Ryan, Bethany H, Emily and Luke and Holly from Swingate Infant School.
