We believe the English Teacher provides a language for life, on a functional level and as a source of infinite pleasure.
Thus, it is of paramount importance for an
English Teacher to ensure that students acquire and extend as fully as
possible the skills of talking, listening, reading and writing. These
skills are vital as they underpin all other areas of the curriculum and
society.
Our lessons should be interesting and full of enthusiasm
but they should also be down to earth and concrete. As teachers of this
main subject, we owe it to the students to ensure that, to the best of
their ability, they have acquired and extended the skills of
comprehension through reading and listening and those of expression
through the written and spoken word.
We equip the student with the ability to:
- speak clearly and with feeling;
- read with understanding;
- spell and punctuate accurately;
- write grammatically correct sentences;
- use legible handwriting;
- present neat work.
We aim to show students that English comes in
many rich and varied forms and that through English we find our main
means of understanding each other and the world around us. |
