Rochester Grammar School > Subjects > Religious Studies

The Religious Studies department aims:
  • to help the pupils make sense of religious belief and practice by using the knowledge they have achieved to discover meaning in the various expressions of religion;
  • to contribute to the development of pupils' own beliefs, values and standards as they make informed and balanced judgements about religious and moral issues which arise from their studies in the subject;
  • to encourage pupils to respect and appreciate other people who hold beliefs different from their own.

"Provision in RE is very good (excellent post 16). All pupils engage in RE, show positive attitudes and are always encouraged." - OfSTED 2003

What do students think of RE?

“It’s my favourite subject!”

“I find it really interesting!”

“I really enjoy debating important issues because it is good preparation for the future.”

“It has helped me better understand people and world issues.”

“RE is the highlight of my week!”

“I’m much more confident to express my opinion in class discussions because my classmates respect each other equally.”
