Post 16: KS4 - KS5 Transition (Year 11 pathways)
The end of Y10 and into Y11 is an important time for our students. We provide them with the support they need to make informed, appropriate choices about their futures as they progress though to the next stage of their education or training. These are some of the ways in which we will be providing support for your son/daughter over the next year.
¡ We provide PD lessons which help students find out more about their skills, abilities and interests and how these link to future decisions
¡ Students attend sessions as part of the PD programme which outline the major routes at 16 including the chance to talk to providers and students.
¡ Students are given guidance in how to find careers information in and out of school.
¡ Students are encouraged to attend Open Evenings/Days/Taster sessions
¡ Students have access to Personal Advisers Gill Duckham and Anne Brown– they can make their own appointments should they wish.
¡ Students and parents are be invited to the Post 16 Opportunities Evening in October and the Brookfield 6th Form information Evening in December.
¡ The Parents Evening provides the opportunity to discuss post 16 choices in relation to academic progress.
¡ Students are be supported with their applications and interviews. We recommend that all students consider a back-up plan to their main choice.
Post 16: What next after KS5?
We hold an evening specifically for parents of Y12 students at the end of June, informing them about our Higher Education programme and looking at how they might help you in the process. On this evening we give out a Help booklet for parents, giving information and advice on student finance. Visit the KS5 section of the website for further support. Students are involved in a programme which supports then through their transition from Brookfield to Higher Education, Further Education, Employment or Training.
We guarantee that all guidance, information and advice is impartial and up-to-date, in line with the school’s policy for Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance, a copy of which can be found on the school website. Visit the Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 pages for useful information and links to all the major websites to support choices for both parents and students including student entitlement statements
We want to work in partnership with parents to help all students make the best decisions – please feel free to contact us at any stage in the next year to discuss your son/daughter’s choices.
