Sir John Leman High School > Subjects > Leisure Studies

Leisure Studies is a vocational A level.
At AS three units are studied which give an insight into the key areas of the leisure industry.

The first unit examines the range and scale of the sector and its importance to the UK economy.  The second unit is more practical as it includes visits and role plays as we evaluate the delivery of customer service.  Both these units are assessed via the production of a portfolio of evidence.   The last unit of the AS focuses on the operational side of running a leisure business.  Students are given a case study and the examination assesses students ability to apply leisure industry practice concepts (marketing, health and safety, business systems) to the scenario.

In the second year of the course the tested unit covers Human resource planning a unit that provides an insight into recruitment, selection, training, development and motivation of staff.

Outdoor education is the focus of the second A2 unit.  The Broads are our case study for this and students get to organise their own outdoor activity.

The highlight of the course, which brings together what all students have learned is the planning of an event.  Students have to plan, run and evaluate an event as independently as they can.
