The Classical Curriculum at RGS
We use the Cambridge Latin Course textbooks. The course has a very helpful website at http://www.cambridgescp.com, which is used by the pupils extensively in lessons and at home. The website provides a wide variety of resources to help with translating stories, learning and testing vocabulary, and reading and finding information about the various topics studied.
Ancient Greek may be studied by students after school, if they wish.
RGS is the lead school for Latin within the Rochester / Walderslade partnership; students who wish to study Latin at Sixth Form Level will do so here. We follow the OCR specification for A Level Latin.
We also offer Classical Civilisation at Advanced Level. Students do not need any prior knowledge of Classical Civilisation or Latin in order to take A Level Classical Civilisation. We follow the OCR specification.
From 2008, we will be offering a brand new A Level called 'Classics'; it is aimed at those students who have an interest in the Latin language as well as in Roman history, culture and society. This new A Level course takes elements from the current Latin and Classical Civilisation syllabuses. |
