English

We aim to provide a language rich environment in which we teach children to use language in both spoken and written forms with accuracy. Children are encouraged from an early age to become independent readers in order to support learning in other subjects.

Parents are actively encouraged to support reading when books and literacy games are sent home.
We aim to enable children to become confident and competent independent writers, using fiction, non-fiction and poetry.Phonics, spelling and handwriting are taught to develop and support independent writing.
Opportunities for drama and discussion are included to further enhance language development.

The school has a well resourced library which holds
stimulating fiction and non-fiction books.
