About our School

Stone Cross School is a Community Primary School for children aged 4+ to 11 years, serving an area to the north-east of Eastbourne, East Sussex. The school opened in 1992 with just seven classes and was quickly over-subscribed. In 1996 an extension was opened and the school now consists of fourteen classrooms, a library, two halls, spacious corridors, a small-group teaching room, administrative areas, staff room and kitchen.

We have a new ICT Suite which was officially opened by His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester KG GCVO on the 29th April 2008.

Outside, the playgrounds are attractively landscaped and there is a field for use during dry weather incorporating an adventure trail.

Situated on the school site is an independent pre-school.

The school is organised into fourteen classes, two per year group.

The six Key Stage One classes are for children aged 4 to seven years. There is a maximum of 30 children in each class and as well as the class teacher, each class has a full-time teaching assistant to support your child in their learning.

The eight Key Stage Two classes are for children aged 8 to eleven years and there is a maximum of 35 children per class. Each year group has a teaching assistant to support the children.

East Sussex has adopted the six term year with one week's holiday during October, February and June and longer breaks for Christmas, Easter and summer.

In addition the school also has five teacher training days during the school year, the dates of which are available once they have been agreed.
