Mathematics is a core subject and is a vital part of every day life. It is the study of number and shape and is a key indicator regarding our human ability to think logically. Basic numeracy skills are taught alongside the more creative skills involved in problem solving. Students are grouped according to ability from year 7. The subject is offered to AS and A2 level in the post 16 curriculum. The exam board for both KS4 and KS5 is EdExcel.
Aims:
Our aim in the maths department is to ensure that every student reaches their full potential in mathematics; that they are well motivated and enjoy learning the subject; they develop a sound understanding of our number system and are able to transfer numeracy skills to other areas of the curriculum and every day life.
We will endeavour to achieve our aims with good classroom teaching with the emphasis on empowering our students to become creative learners who can think and solve problems. We are building up interactive lessons that are stimulating and challenging.
