E-Safety Information for Parents
Do you know how to help protect your child online?
Technology is vast and growing. There are many fun things to do online and with hand-held technology available today. Technology is a powerful and entertaining medium both in and outside of school and is a major part of everyday life, sometimes the difference between being a part of society or not. However, we should be aware of the potential risks our students face and how they can protect themselves.

The Thinkuknow Website
Thinkuknow.co.uk is a site produced by the Child Exploitation and Online Protection centre (CEOP). It's purpose is to educate students, parents and teachers about the complex issues of e-safety. The site is split into areas for different age groups, ranging from 5 years to adult. Each age range has different resources specifically targetted towards that age group and gives an insight into all the fun things to do with technology and the potential risks associated. |

There is also a Parent and Carer section aimed at those responsible for the care of children. This section gives parents all of the information you need to understand the internet, mobile phones and there associated risks.

E-Safety in School
In Key Stage 3 all students learn about e-safety as a unit of work embedded into the ICT curriculum. These lessons cover the safe use of the internet, including safely setting up and using social networking and gaming accounts, online ettiquette (netiquette), protection of personal information and data storage. They also look at issues of cyberbullying as a form of bullying which is covered in more detail as part of a bullying topic in P.H.S.E.
In Key Stage 4 the emphasis changes slightly and focuses on standard ways of working, physical safety in using equipment and ways to keep safe and protect personal data and information when using ICT. If students select the full ICT OCR course as an option, they also learn about the Legal and Moral issues of ICT. |
