 GEOGRAPHY

 Welcome to our Geography zone!

At Northleigh we believe that 'Geography' is about developing an understanding of our world, primarily through experience and investigation, as well as learning from secondary sources.
We aim to:

·   stimulate interest in, and curiosity about our surroundings.

·   create and foster a sense of wonder about the world.

·   inspire a sense of responsibility for the environments and the people of the world.

·   develop competence in specific geographical skills.

·   increase our knowledge and awareness of the world.

·   acquire and develop the skills and confidence to undertake investigation, problem solving and decision making.

In October Dr. Jones and Mrs. Paisley visited our link school in Darajani, Tanzania. This was the fourth visit. We have established a strong bond with the staff and children at the school and are looking forward to welcoming some of their teachers this summer term.

Here are the geographical elements that each unit will be learning about this term through their exciting topics...

Foundation Stage will be thinking about where we live. Later in the term they will be finding out about beaches and what people do there.

Years 1 and 2 will be busy with their atlases as they learn about Africa...

They will be comparing our local environment with that of Tanzania and will be walking on the Malvern hills.

Years 3 and 4 are asking 'Do you like to be beside the seaside?'

They will be looking at coastal features, both physical and human, as well as learning about how the coast is always changing...

Years 5 and 6 will be finding out why Malvern is in the top 100 places to live in the UK.

They are going to be investigating the local landscape and learning about tourist attractions in the area.
