Courses For the Community

2009 -2010 

During the next academic year we will be providing courses for the community provided there is demand.  The courses here are in response to evaluations/requests made in the last year.

If you wish to join one of the courses below please let us know before 10th September. Contact details: scroll down. 

  • Exam course: you will pay the registration fee only
  • Other course: we would ask for a donation if you can afford it to help us deliver the courses.
  • Some courses of a practical nature: you will be asked to make a contribution to the cost of materials

European Computer Driving Licence. 

One further year for those who have registered to complete the course. Existing student: please confirm desire to continue

You may register for this course if you have not started yet but will have to complete in one year: a difficult task. Only cost: £25 registration for new students.  Course completed on line.  In college support every two weeks at 6 p.m. Exams must be taken at college at 6 p.m. session.

Photoshop For Beginners

Get to grips with Adobe Photoshop and get those digital pictures looking great. Learn how to use filters, re size, etc

An introduction to computer animation for beginners

Following on from our popular Silver Surfers course a series of sessions on the basic use of computers to make life that bit more interesting and fun. 2 X 2 hour sessions in Autumn, Spring and Summer. Adult Numeracy Test Level 1

Find numbers hard? Want guided help to develop your number skills and develop your confidence? This course will develop your number skills and enable you to take a basic numeracy test certificate. * Those who take this course and pass will be able to progress to the level 2 test and to GCSE c grade or above.

Weekly commitment from late September

GCSE Maths Course

Hard work will see you take the GCSE exam summer 2010

OR you may wish to retake GCSE to improve upon a previous grade with which you were not happy!  The course will require work beyond the evening sessions in order to achieve the required standard

Extend Your Skills and Have Fun!

Dressmaking: an introduction

Eight sessions covering the basics of dress making and beating your sewing machine into submission. Bring your patterns and learn how to read a pattern and create a masterpiece. Supply your own patterns and fabric. Sewing machines available.

If you enjoy reading and would like to have the chance to explore fiction with a group of new friends with a qualified English teacher to challenge and guide you then this is for you. Will meet every three weeks. Why not come with a friend?

A series of six sessions (initially) run by a fluent Spanish speaker who lived in Mexico for three years, is a qualified teacher, and will guide you through some basic Spanish.

As part of our commitment to improving  the use of ICT within the wider community we have timetabled a number of training sessions which are open to all members of the community. The training sessions will be 2 hours in duration and will be run by an experienced tutor. The sessions will run from 6:00 to 8.00pm.
