What are Extended Services?
Extended services have a key role to play in achieving the ‘Every Child Matters’ (ECM) outcomes and the goals set out in the Children's Plan.
‘Every Child Matters’ is the Government's aim for every child, whatever their background or their circumstances, to have the support they need to achieve five core outcomes:-
§ to be healthy
§ to be safe
§ to enjoy and achieve
§ to make a positive contribution and
to achieve economic well-being
Extended services are the delivery mechanism for the wellbeing of all children and young people.
What is an extended school?
Extended schools provide or signpost to, a range of services outside of school hours for primary and secondary school age children, their families and the local community. These include access to childcare, activities and support for learning.
By September 2010, all schools will provide access to a full range of services - some will be free but others, like childcare, will be charged for. Extended school services are designed to help you balance work and family commitments, support your children with their studies and give them a broader range of experiences and interests.
The services you can benefit from are:
- Community access – contact the school if you would like to discuss this
