Welcome to Music
Head of Department: Mrs Nicola Andrews
St Paul’s has an inclusive Music Department. Lessons are structured around performing, composing, listening and appraising, covering a wide range of styles. Performing can include whole class singing and instrumental work. All activities provide opportunities to work individually and in groups. There are two large music classrooms which are furnished with computers with software packages including Sibelius 5, Cubase Essential and Reason.
Instrumental lessons are available and there are teachers of woodwind, brass, drum kit, singing, strings, piano and guitar. It is obviously beneficial to own the instrument that is to be studied and lessons take place during the school day on a rotating timetable. For continuity, priority is given to pupils who are already learning an instrument. There are extra-curricular activities to suit all tastes and staff are always on hand to help. Musical achievements are celebrated in termly concerts and in our annual Carol Service. Trips are organised throughout the year and we often join forces with the Drama department to put on productions and musicals. |
