Highwood Primary School is the first primary school in the area to have its own radio station. This exciting new media allows children to develop their speaking and listening skills as well as providing a clear purpose for their written work across the curriculum. The school expects this to ultimately lead to a rise in standards.
The radio is being developed for use right across the school from story telling in Foundation Stage to adverts, debates and persuasive arguments in Year 6. Currently a breakfast show is played out each morning before school and at playtime, which includes features such as the news and weather, clubs and the school lunch menu. Also, each week a class will write and produce its own 20 minute lunchtime show.
