Welcome to the Mathematics Curriculum Area
| The Mathematics Curriculum area is a highly successful and well regarded department. We are fortunate to be well staffed with highly qualified personnel whose enthusiasm and passion for the subject is reflected in the education we deliver. |
“Teaching and learning are excellent, because teachers inspire and stimulate students to learn and students work hard to achieve their potential”
Ofsted 2009 |
Our vision is to provide an education to our students which equips them with the mathematical skills they need to thrive in society, and the ability to apply those skills successfully.
|
“Teachers use good subject knowledge, set high expectations for students, and mostly use open-ended and targeted questioning and other activities to check all students' understanding.”

The syllabus in KS3 has been condensed into a two year program of study, with students taking End of Key Stage SATs at the end of Year 8.
In Year 9, all pathways follow a three year KS4 program that includes entry for GCSE Statistics at the end of Year 10 at either Higher or Foundation tier and entry to GCSE Mathematics at the end of Year 11.
In Year 10 our Gifted and Talented mathematicians will have the opportunity to apply to do AS level Use of Mathematics. |
In October 2010 we expect to move into a brand new purpose built mathematics block. The expectation is that the six new classrooms will be equipped with state of the art technology. |
