Languages at Calthorpe Park School are offered to all students and the department has excellent results at GCSE. As well as French and German, we are really pleased to be teaching Spanish in Y7 for the first time! Students will rotate in their languages classes, spending each of the three terms learning a different language, and by the end of the school year will have been assessed in two different skills for each language. Italian is also available in Y10 as a GCSE enrichment course.
Within the department languages are taught in a safe and secure environment where all students are encouraged to contribute to the lesson. As well as having high academic standards, the language department also enjoys good levels of behaviour in lessons in which every student experiences success.
The department aims to generate enthusiasm for language learning, give an insight into another country and culture, and increase awareness of how languages work.
