Personal Development & Citizenship (PdC)

Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education is taught throughout the school as part of our Personal Development and Citizenship (PdC) provision.  PdC underpins the whole school in giving young people the opportunity to develop the skills to be able to make informed decisions about their own life choices.

Through PdC we focus on developing students’ personal and economical wellbeing, and financial capability.  PdC aims to raise confidence, aspirations, interpersonal skills and awareness of the wider communities through a variety of approaches such as group work, discussion work, debate, quizzes, making posters and leaflets, questionnaires, video stimulus and role play activities.
The programme is delivered by Form Tutors in Y7 and Y8, and by a specialist team of PdC teachers in Years 9, 10 & 11.  Our lessons focus on several common themes through Years 7 to 11, such as:

Human Rights and Responsibility
Bullying and Peer Support/Pressure
Media Influences

The programme encourages participation from all students, promoting the idea that by sharing our opinions and beliefs we can work together and support each other more effectively.  We are supported in this by visitors, guest speakers and professional theatre productions.  Students are encouraged to develop their own knowledge of local services and how to make use of them.
