The Drama Department at Exmouth Community College consists of 4 specialist members of staff each with their own area of expertise. We pride ourselves on the quality of the work our students produce in what is a skills based subject.
Our students experience a wide ranging curriculum in which they develop a comprehensive understanding of theatrical skills and techniques. Through the work we undertake students will also improve their interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
An increasing number of students are choosing Drama at GSCE and A level because they recognise the value of working with others creatively and the future benefits it offers in both further education and in employment. We have chosen the AQA syllabus at both GCSE and A level because it is considered by universities to be an academically challenging course. As part of the written element students will not only study stimulating plays but will also have opportunities to experience live theatre and work alongside professional actors. We are recognised as a centre of excellence for both our GCSE and A level examination performances by our examining body. Last year our A2 students produced an Artaudian piece of theatre for which the majority achieved the highest possible mark.
In recent years we have produced a number of highly successful college productions including Bugsy Malone, Our Country’s Good, Oliver and a series of abridged Shakespeare plays. We offer a great range of extra curricular activities which are extremely popular and have proved very successful. We were delighted to launch Showstoppers in 2008 which amalgamated Dance, Music and Drama. We offer Drama club to Key Stage 2 and 3 students promoting primary liaison between the college and our feeder schools.
