Hertford Infant and Nursery School

Hertford Infant and Nursery School > Eco Pages

By encouraging pupils to take responsibility for the environmental management of their school, they will develop an increased sense of responsibility for their surroundings.  An Eco-School enhances and thrives within a caring school community where the views of others are valued and action is taken in response to these views.  The school becomes a place to make positive changes and to make a difference.

Our school holds the 'Eco Schools'  highest achievement award - The Green Flag.

 HERTFORD WINS COMPETITION
On January 13th we once again had TV cameras in school. This time Teacher's TV were filming how we encourage healthy eating throughout the school curriculum. This was the result of us winning a competition run by Teacher's TV called Sharing Your Great Practice where they search out the best of what is happening in schools across the country.

There are 12 videos in this series.

WINNER

Hertford Infant and Nursery School

I was so impressed with the imaginative and practical approach taken by this school. There seems to be a real understanding that healthy eating isn’t just about cutting out crisps - it’s also a holistic and sustainable way of eating which starts with planting seeds, continues with cooking and eating, then recycling what’s left and starting the process all over again! The produce garden, the cookery club, the juicing days and the recycling are a wonderful way of teaching this process. Using the skills and imagination of the children for the book is also such a great way of raising awareness (and money) and giving the children themselves an insight into sharing best practice.

I was impressed by the entry from Hertford Infant and Nursery School because creating a healthy school community is approached in such a holistic way. As they say, they take initiatives that become ‘embedded in how we are and in all we do’. They have forged strong links with a local Eco Charity that works on Eco Projects every week with the children. They have ensured their staff are given CPD that supports this. Their ideas are imaginative and forward thinking – a great investment for the school community in healthy living.”
