Welcome to the
English Department
The English Department at Windsor School seeks to inspire in our students an enjoyment of language and literature. It is our aim therefore to create a stimulating learning environment in which all young people can enjoy, achieve and succeed.
Through a planned balance of talking and listening, reading and writing, the department explores imaginative approaches giving students opportunities to learn in ways which reflect the importance of written and verbal communication in school and in the world beyond.
We seek to ensure that our students become skilled users of language who have a clear understanding of how language, in its various forms, works and how it can be used effectively in a range of contexts.
Whether it be analysing classic works of literature or interpreting modern multi-modal texts, providing students with an appropriate level of challenge is at the heart of what we do in English. So too is providing students with the opportunity to reflect critically on their own performance and that of others.
Regular teacher assessment, student self-assessment and peer review are used widely as a means of promoting progress and ensuring appropriate levels of achievement and success.
