HASTINGS AREA YOUTH SAMBA BAND (HAYSAMBA)
NATIONAL FESTIVAL OF MUSIC FOR YOUTH 2014
On Sunday 23rd March HAYSAMBA travelled to Ashford to compete in the Regional heats of the National Festival of Music for Youth competition 2014. The Festival has been held annually for the past forty years; this year being held at The Norton Knatchbull School, Ashford.
The Regional Festivals are open to any type of group, and with around 70 Festivals taking place in over 50 venues throughout the UK; it is one of the biggest Music Festivals in the world with over 40,000 performers taking part. With a rich variety of different styles of music on offer including a Rock, Pop & Funk Fusion group, Folk, Percussion and Steel Drum Group, HAYSAMBA had some stiff competition.
Led by Dave Morris and Chris Hamblin, both teachers with the East Sussex Music Service, the band played magnificently and was commended by the Judges for a confident and imaginative performance. The semi-finals will be held in Birmingham, with the lucky finalists having the chance to play at the Albert Hall.
