The Curriculum
Welcome to our curriculum pages, where you can find information about each subject we teach in school.
This term sees the introduction of our new 'Irresistible' curriculum - a new approach to teaching history, geography, art, DT and other subjects where appropriate. The curriculum is now skills based - focussed on developing lifelong learning skills that the children will be able to use in real life contexts.
Each topic has a 'Big Question' designed to spark the children's interest - this question will generate other questions from the children. These questions will form a basis for the learning so each stage is relevant and child centred.
After the introduction of the 'Big Question,' each year group holds an unlocking day - a big event to hook the children in and engage their learning. These days could involve trips, visitors, films, music or any matter of ideas! The children will then learn about their topic through a variety of methods.
At the end of the children's learning there will be a 'Locking in the Knowledge' day. These days will be an opportunity for parents and carers to come into school to see what they children have learnt. The children are always keen to demonstrate and pass on their knowledge to others.
This year you will receive a specific year group newsletter containing details about your child's topic that term. We have also linked homework where possible to the curriculum to make it more relevant, interesting and creative for the children. This information will also be available on the Learning Platform should you need it.
We hope you enjoy the new curriculum as much as we do!
