English as an Additional Language (EAL) Register

 

 download the EAL register from Education Online

 

·          Log in to http://education.brighton-hove.gov.uk

 

·          Go to Central Services | School ICT | SIMS Software Support | SIMS Downloads & Updates then EAL

 

·          Click on the link EAL register and choose a location to save the report definition file to e.g. your desktop

 

 

To import the EAL register into SIMS .net

 

·          Log in to SIMS .net and go to Reports | Import.

 

·          Click on the Open button and browse to the location you saved the report file to and click on open.

 

·          Then click on Import, and then Close.

 

 

To Record New Entrants into the UK

 

At the moment SIMS .Net does not provide a field for recording the date that pupils arrive in the UK, which is of particular relevance to the 1st school in the UK that a pupil joins.

 

To work around this, please go into SIMS .Net -  Tools\Other Schools

 

Click on the “New” button & record the school Name as “New to the UK”. Click on Save.

 

When recording the pupil details of a pupil new to the UK, please record “New to the UK” as the previous school, in the pupil’s School History panel, with a leaving date of the day BEFORE your school’s admission date.

 

To generate the EAL register in SIMS .net

 

·          In SIMS .net go to Reports – Run.

 

·          Go to the Focus folder and then Student.

 

·          Double click on the report named ‘EAL Register”.

 

Choose the years in the school for which to run the report.

to filter the Excel spreadsheet by new Entrants into the UK,
click on the Previous School column header,
click on the Data menu & choose Filter\Autofilter.

 

By then clicking on the down arrow which now appears in the column header you will be able to choose the previous school to filter on.

 

 

 

Click on “New to the UK” to filter the spreadsheet for new entrants to the UK.
