Fantastic Y2/Y6 SATS results 2012 -

We place a strong focus on the children's development of maths, reading and writing skills in our school. We set end of year targets for every child, and have high expectations. The Senior Leaership Team and class teachers have termly pupil progress meetings to discuss the progress of every child. Parents/carers are informed of their own child's progress at our Parent consultation meetings in November and April each year. In addition to these meetings, parents/carers are very welcome to talk with teachers at the end of the school day - for a longer talk together it is better to make an appointment.

We also place huge importance on the whole development of every child - in all areas such as: Music, Art, ICT, PE, Humanities, RE, PSHEE... These areas of a child's development are very well supported in our school, highlighted and celebrated.

Our regular newsletters keep you up-to-date about school events and news!

Copies of all the newsletters and school information are sent home in paper form with the children. We remind parents/carers to check children's book bags daily, as children do not always remember to give the letters to you at home!

New admissions to our school -

Admissions to all year groups:

At our school Mrs. Ham is always very happy to make individual appointments at any time of year, to meet with parents/carers and give a tour of the school; if you'd like to do this please feel very welcome to telephone the school (01424 870585) to make a convenient time. (You are welcome to bring your own child with you if you'd like to, or come without your child.)

We welcome children at all times throughout the school year, into all age groups, depending on spaces available. We also have open mornings/afternoons in October, November, and January each year.

Reception Class places for September 2013:

Our reception class takes up to 30 children - and we are never full from young children living in our village community. Our village is not big enough to provide us with 30 young reception children! Therefore, we always have places available to families who live outside the village. Allocation of Reception places, in addition to all Year Groups, is decided by East Sussex County Council Admissions Department. The contact number for ESCC Admissions is 0345 6080192. Parents/carers may apply for a place in our school on line via the East Sussex website: www.eastsussex.gov.uk.

Allocation of Reception places for September 2013 is distributed to families on 19th April 2013.

Reception Class places for September 2014:

Dates of our Open Mornings and Afternoons in the Autumn will be published later on in the year.

Our wonderful swimming pool -

We have a fantastic outdoor, heated swimming pool, which is open from Easter to the summer holidays every year. All children have a swimming lesson every week, and the pool is open after school every afternoon for extra swimming sessions. We also open the pool at weekends and in the summer holiday. The pool is open to the pre-school children including families with children due to start school here, to the village community, families and friends. (Please contact the school if you are keen to use our school pool.)

The pool is a huge expense for our school - it can cost up to £10,000 per year, which is a lot of money to find. Parents/carers are asked to help toward the costs by paying £35 per year for the swimming lessons for their child (for 12 lessons = under £3.00 per lesson, and only 10 children in each lesson.) The PTA are also fully committed to fund raising to help towards the pool's annual expenditure..

This year we are also working hard to raise £30,000 for pool improvements to include new changing rooms and individual cubicles, toilet and shower facilities, new fencing and gates, and a new safety surface on the ground around the pool. So far, we have raised over £6000 which is going to fund the new changing rooms and cubicles for this 2013 swimming season. Great news!

Our school swimming pool will be open from 15th April 2013. We look forward to another very happy and successful swimming season!

Sedlescombe Smiles! Our termly newspaper! -

Please enjoy reading our new termly news paper called 'Sedlescombe Smiles' - lots of information about special events, playtimes, after-school clubs etc. This is a new way of communicating many of the wonderful opportunities our children enjoy in our happy and successful school.
